Persistent,
A gamble of love
Staked on cards.
Every day closer,
Every day beginning.
Distraction leading mother
To bet with
Her daughter’s man.
She’s not his,
Not yet.
He trenches himself
Deep within the familial psyche,
She tries to rip the talons out,
But the cat only grips
Tighter and tighter.
She fails,
She falls,
The cat grins.
